O'SULLIVAN FOR CANNES DIRECT JURY, BLOOD FOR PROMO LIONS?

New Zealand's Cannes jurors this year are slowly being leaked, the latest being that Mike O'Sullivan (pictured), ECD of Saatchi & Saatchi, has being appointed to the Direct Lions jury and that Andy Blood, ECD of TBWA\Whybin has got the Promo Lions gig. The Cannes strategy this year appears to be to get the best jury of top creative people, not necessarily the best from each discipline, which is probably a good idea as over the coming years, NZ is sure to run out of world-class specialists to fill the various juries.

Good to see some of the other NZ CD's finally doing some self-promotion. It was starting to look like a one horse pr race...

All due respect to Mike but I would much prefer to have the likes of Wayne Pick judging my direct entries. He would immediately understand why not every entry would have a TVC at the heart of it. Also, like Andy Blood, Wayne had to pull out last year to pitch and deserves to be there.

My mum is always complaining about the amount of Direct Mail that gets sent to her. I think she should go and judge.

What a bunch of arse. Since when did Mike O' have the right credentials to judge a direct category? No debating his skills, but direct isn't one of them. What does this say about the jury picking the Cannes judges ?

So when did anyone at Saatchi's know anything about direct? Probably why Saatchi Direct did so well.

You're all forgetting something important: most of the direct stuff that gets up at cannes etc. isn't shit that folds - it's a brand ad with a 0800 or a coupon tacked on the end. As many categories as you can, boys, as many categories as you can...

Aside from all the expected sniping at DM's poor cousin status, how does Mike feel about being put on the Direct jury? (Probably better than Andy feels about judging the Promos, but not much.)
