HAUNTING MUSIC IN CURRENT AIR NZ SPOT

The music in the current Air NZ commercial on air is getting some good comments around the place. "Almost on a daily basis we are getting enquires about the music track, it's been very popular here," reports Stacey Wah at Soundtrax.
But apart from the music, what does everyone feel about the spot? It's probably never going to win awards, but is it right for Air NZ?

Agency: Colenso BBDO
Creative: Steve Cochran
Director: Richard Gibson
Production Company: Lucious International
Composer: Jim Hall @ Soundtrax
Vocalist - Jayne Budai

It's nice and emotional as 30sec TVCs go so I like it. Even if it is a straight rip from a short film, the name of which escapes me right now. It was foriegn...10 points anyone if you get it first pop.

First they took away the meals, then the biscuits... these ads are clearly preparing us for the day when they take away the plane.

Some of the concerns the client had that were ignored by the agency.

Was there enough room in the hallway to get airborn? She didnt seem to have much run up. Was she the only one home? Who shut the door?
Why would a guy dump a chick wo can fly? That just doesnt ring true to me. Was the old guy on the beach her ex older boyfriend or is that her grandad? She really needs to say somethign like 'Hi Grandad' to clear that up.

She was still crying when she got to the beach. So she flew all that way with tears in her eyes in which case it was dangerous to fly MOTE, that is airforce talk for Map of the earth. She should have stayed at a safer altitude. About 1000 feet i think. If people start flying around the country then they wont want to go on Air NEw Zeland. Can we have the girl say something at the end of the ad like 'The thing i dont like about flying myself is that i dont get a cup of coffee and a biscuit the way i do on air newzealand.'
Did she fly in her school dress? Is that veryt practical. Maybe we should see her get changed into a flying suit. Should we have a warning to children saying dont try to fly at home?
As a nice ambient idea we could put little srtickers of the girl flying on the outside of the aircraft windows so when people look out the window they think they see the girl flying.

Can I have a soft copy of this presentation emailed to me I need to show it to some people. Do you have any other ideas`?

The music is very poignant. It makes me almost like Air New Zealand. I'm flying home by Air Canada and all they have in their ads are waddling geese.

No wonder she can fly. Her uniform is Christchurch Girls' High...

Shouldn't the line be 'Emotional Journeys Every Day? So far every execution of an amazing journey is an amazingly emotional one.

OK, it's a small point but I look forward to the amazing journey of a bunch of hyped up lads taking off for their stag weekend. Could be quite touching with that music track.

Still - nobody gets the 10 points for recognising yet another unoriginal piece of creative advertising! That has just made a finalist at our national award show no less. Ah, advertising. How original.

Yeah, yeah. It is all standard advertising pap.
Play up the emotion.
However...
The music (score) is great, now there is some genuine talent.

PB.

Brought tears to my eyes. I got the jist of what this commercial was all about. I don't know what that idiot who left the 1000 word speech was on about - and no, he/she doesn't deserve a 'soft copy' for all his/her friends to view (probably doesn't have friends with pathetic comments like that).
