I'm going to stick my neck out and say I like this.
I say 'stick my neck out' because I have already ehard it widely slagged in person - yet alone on this anonymous free-for-all forum.
I say 'I like this' because I've only seen it once and it is still the only ad I've seen in the last week that I can actually remember. And for the most part I remember it fondly.

I love you Hugh.

When does a pastiche become a rip off? Can anyone say, 'Sin City'?
5:29 pm NZST
I thought the rule in advertising was you can rip off anything as long as it isnt another ad. Isnt the idea trading off imagery and stuff people recognise ie Sin City style to help sell your shit?
I'm sure i read that in page 234 of the making ads handbook

Hats off Love, you seem to be the only guy who ever puts his name on this bitchy little blog
Vegas
6:13 pm NZST
Indeed. I agree with Mr Vegas, who I saw screaming around the corniche in Abu Dhabi in his new Porche Cayenne this morning, it's time to start acting like grown ups.
John Doe
Mabrouk on the new purchase PV.

well I'm more interested in the fact that Images look like they're posting decent ads again. good to see given the messy couple of weeks in the post production bis.

What is the world coming to.... Dennis does retail ! OMG
11:47 pm NZST
Excellent. Made me laugh out loud. Given Vince a new lease of life. Of course it's Sin City, that's the gag.

6:11pm, so that makes Todd's Larsen bug idea ok then does it. I'm not entirely sure I agree with the rip off comment but stealing directly from other sources for advertising without changing the source material much does raise ethical and moral questions.

I would rather do a boring product and price ad than rip off a cool movie. Shame on you.
8:37 am NZST
Well done Images and Albedo - Fabulous job.
8:41 am NZST
I would love to have this ad on my reel. well done.

9.57 it's murky waters isnt it.
kind of like the ones near Iran these days.
The larson fly ad was a complete rip off with a logo added on so maybe that went to far as opposed to the honda 'nice when things work ad' which had a twist on the ripped off idea which was specific to the product. So that was the idea.
What about the big ad. Was that a rip off? Thoughts anyone
10:59 am NZST
its all good, looks a million bucks and who really cares about the rip off bollocks anyway. everything in life is an adaptation one way or another.
7:55 pm NZST
7:55 - Well done for the comment. Spoken like a true hack.
9:08 pm NZST
Vince does a great vo, the ad is slick and a nice homage to an inspiring film. Grow up NZ advertising. Well done Clems
10:05 pm NZST
Wish I had done it.
6:53 am NZST
i guess the guys with the hack comment is happy with his price/ products. fair enough, Briscoes is just a rip off of old Noel Leeming ads anyway
11:27 am NZST
I'm with Craig. It's a lovely ad. I've only seen it here but even in this somewhat dubious environment it sings.
And as for it being a 'rip-off' of Sin City, get out of here. It's more a nod to Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe. And it takes a writer of no small skill to pull that style off. Hats off to Hugh and Martin.
12:38 pm NZST
Christ, can we please move on now.
3:40 pm NZST
Looks amazing, but the idea's as weak as my Grandma's tea. Well done Dennis for bringing it to life.
5:28 pm NZST
Isn't Abu Dhabi a Kaufman skit/song?
I love this. I said so to my wife. She mumbled and carried on knitting.
7:42 pm NZST
Anyway we've done this to death aint we. It's only an ad. Unitll a new story comes along lets line dance off into the last movie I saw Vince Martin in - the tom hanks one on the island with the volleyball. Great ad for Fed Ex but bugged the hell out of me that he never opened that last package. How much do you reckon Fed Ex paid to be in that. Seen the comedy sketch based on the film where tom delivers the package and ther lady opens itand it contains a satelite phone.Fricken funny.
Righto
9:33 pm NZST
That's an awesome sketch, should have been an ad. It's gold.... actually....back in a sec...
10:34 am NZST
Yeah, I reckon it's bloody good. Made me laugh and the idea is really simple.
Pats on the back to all involved.
You should see the shiiiiiiiiite on our screens over here in Sydney!

I suggest you don't lead with that line next time you're going after a job.
